Tulsa King filming locations

Things to do in “the Paris of the Southwest” as seen in Tulsa King

No, you won’t get sprayed with holy water for cussing outside the airport. You won’t see cowboy hats here either — unless they came off a flight from Texas. And loose horses don’t roam downtown.

T-Town is not the pious western outpost Tulsa King makes it out to be, but coming from Brooklyn, Stallone surely is a fish outta water. (Side note: Tulsa Tours’ founder also came from Brooklyn to Tulsa — but without mob credentials.)

Starring Sylvester Stallone as mafia capo Dwight Manfredi, Tulsa King premiered on November 13, 2022. Despite the name, Tulsa King was filmed more in Oklahoma City to take advantage of production capabilities and sound stages at Prairie Surf Studios.

Paramount quickly renewed Tulsa King for a second season, but unfortunately it won’t be shot in Oklahoma due to the extreme heat encountered while filming season 1.

Here is a self-guided tour of filming locations in Tulsa King. Scroll down for an interactive map.

The Mayo Hotel

What it is: historic hotel with residences
What to do: panoramic views with drinks at a rooftop bar

Tulsa’s tallest building when opened in 1925, The Mayo was also the most luxurious hotel between the Mississippi River and West Coast. It hosted presidents, princes, celebs, and filthy rich oilmen who wheeled and dealed leases in the lobby.

Decades later, Tulsa lost its Oil Capital status and The Mayo was mothballed. A local developer brought The Mayo back to life as an unaffiliated, family-owned hotel that’s a top wedding venue.

If not closed for a private event (call ahead), head up to The Penthouse Rooftop Bar for a drink and views of the downtown skyline. Hotel room scenes in Tulsa King were shot on a sound stage and not in the hotel itself.

And in case you’re wondering, The Mayo is not named after the clinic or condiment. And it’s not an example of Art Deco. Take our architecture tour to find out more!

Center of the Universe

What it is: open-air echo chamber
What to do: make an echo

Episode 2 takes its name from an acoustic phenomenon known as Center of the Universe. It’s above the last active railway in downtown Tulsa. The decaying concrete plaza is an eyesore, but if you stand and speak in the innermost circle, your voice is amplified like a microphone. However, others around you don’t hear the echo.

Why does the Center of Universe echo? It’s a mystery but likely due to the curved concrete planters and arched concrete bridge.

Major renovations will make this a greener space and fix the structurally deficient bridge. The quirky echo may disappear, so try it now just as Dwight did. While here, admire the Art Deco beauty of the Tulsa Union Depot, a former passenger rail station.

Triangle Coffee

Is Triangle Coffee a real coffee shop?

Sure is was! One of our favorite coffee shops. In episode 2 Dwight orders a double espresso and sits outside. Triangle later merged with Origin Coffee Company, which closed this downtown location in December 2023. We bet a new coffee shop will pop up in its place!

The building once housed Triangle Blueprint Company (note the triangle in the entry floor tile) and was constructed in 1907 when Oklahoma achieved statehood. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the K.C. Auto Hotel, once a full-service parking garage during Tulsa’s Oil Capital days.

314 S Cincinnati Ave, Tulsa

Boston Avenue

What it is: business district thoroughfare
What to do: photo op

As Dwight crosses Boston Avenue at 4th Street in the Deco District, the Don’t Walk sign chirps “Wait… Wait.” He retorts, “I’ve been waiting all my life.”

In promo images, Stallone stands like a boss on Boston Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets. The camera points south with the soaring Deco landmark Boston Avenue Methodist Church in the distance. We would have shot the scene facing north to capture the canyon of office buildings. This is a popular angle for graduation and engagement photos.

Try it yourself and grab a coffee at Topeca in the Philcade Building where we have our storefront tour office.

But wait, there’s more! Making cameos in Tulsa King are these landmarks on Route 66:

  • Golden Driller

  • Neon Sign park

  • Meadow Gold Sign
